a thin line of separation

It really moved me to see this after a hurricane that hit Maryland while I was living there. There's all this water flooding a whole downtown street, and to think that there was tons of water under pressure contained by this hydrant, and there was tons of it around. Maybe this isn't conceptual, but it was something for me to think about metaphorically. As if people are part of something bigger and greater, but we're separated by this thin line from the rest of the world, whether it's our perceptions or our skin.
